Se cuenta en el campo chileno que una noche de San Juan se habrían enfrentado a duelo, en un contrapunto, un terrateniente y un peón. Sus instrumentos sonaron noventa y seis horas seguidas, sus lenguas rimaron hasta perder la voz. Don Javier de la Rosa fue el vencedor. El mulato Taguada, otrora invencible payador, terminó ahorcado con una cuerda de su propio guitarrón. Una historia es un viajero que se pasea de voz en voz, de tierra en tierra, de fuego en fuego. Esta, el narrador chileno Andrés Montero la oye de su padre y del mismísimo Nicanor Parra. Entonces decide viajar en el tiempo para entrevistar en retrospectiva a las voces que trasladaron este duelo épico al presente y recoger las partes del relato que se fueron desprendiendo. El premiado autor de El año en que hablamos con el mar y de La muerte viene estilando, es también el protagonista de esta novela, que sigue la pista de una leyenda fascinante. Intrigado, busca llegar hasta el siglo XIX, en la zona central de Chile, para ver con sus propios ojos el enfrentamiento, siempre y cuando a un mito se lo pueda presenciar.

Writer and oral storyteller. He is the author of the novels Tony Ninguno and Taguada; the short story book La muerte viene estilando; the essay “Why Tell Stories in the 21st Century” and four youth books. He studied the Master of Literary Creation at BSM-UPF, in Barcelona. He has been published in Chile, Argentina, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Greece, and Denmark.

Together with Nicole Castillo, he directs the Escuela Casa Contada and hosts the TV show “Los cuenteros en ruta”.

In 2017, he won the X Ibero-American Novel Prize Elena Poniatowska of Mexico City for the novel Tony Ninguno, and in 2022 he received the Art Critics Circle Award, the Santiago Municipal Award, the Language Academy Award, and the Best Literary Works Award from the Ministry of Cultures for La muerte viene estilando; both works published by the same publisher.
