Es wird dabei beschrieben, durch welche Merkmale sich ein Fixkurssystem auszeichnet. Danach wird eingegangen auf die zwei häufigsten Gefahren die durch die Fixierung des Wechselkurses und Interventionen der Zentralbanken entstehen: Das Problem der Inflation und das Liquiditätsproblem. Nachdem, auch anhand eines Beispiels, beschrieben wurde wie eine Währungsspekulation ablaufen kann, wird das Thema am Beispiel der Asienkrise praktisch verdeutlicht. Hierbei liegt der Schwerpunkt auf der Betrachtung Thailands.
