Sexueller Missbrauch ist ein emotional und ideologisch aufgeladenes Thema, das spätestens seit dem Fall Dutroux zum Medienthema avancierte. Die Publikation untersucht anhand dieses Themas massenmediale Problemkonstruktionen und deren Wirkungen auf die Vorstellungen, die Einstellungen und die Handlungsbereitschaft der Rezipienten. In theoretischer Hinsicht werden nicht nur die faktischen (negativen) Wirkungen der tatsächlichen Berichterstattung, sondern auch die möglichen (positiven) Wirkungen einer alternativen Problemkonstruktion untersucht. In methodischer Hinsicht leistet die Arbeit mit ihrer Kombination aus Inhaltsanalyse, Bevölkerungsbefragung und (Quasi-)Experiment einen Beitrag zu Mehrmethodendesigns.
