Juan José Saer (Santa Fe, 1937 - Paris, 2005) is one of the essential writers of Argentine literature and a key reference for new generations of readers. His work, considered on par with Borges, Beckett, and Bernhard, includes novels, short stories, essays, and poetry.
Set in the Litoral region of Santa Fe, his novels and stories create a literary universe where characters and their stories intertwine and reappear in different texts.
Based in France since 1968, he was a professor at the University of Rennes. Among the recognitions he received are the Nadal Prize (1987) for La ocasión, the France Culture (2003), and the Unione Latina di Letterature Romanze (2004).
