Synopsis "Pygmalion & Arms and the Man: Special Edition: 2 plays in one book"

This is a special edition of George Bernard Shaw's celebrated plays, Pygmalion and Arms and the Man. Pygmalion is a play by George Bernard Shaw, named after a Greek mythological character. Professor of phonetics Henry Higgins makes a bet that he can train a bedraggled Cockney flower girl, Eliza Doolittle, to pass for a duchess at an ambassador's garden party by teaching her to assume a veneer of gentility, the most important element of which, he believes, is impeccable speech. The play is a sharp lampoon of the rigid British class system of the day and a commentary on women's independence. Arms and the Man is a satirical comedy about people's idealism towards love and war.

George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) was an influential Irish playwright, critic, and essayist, known for his sharp satire and witty style. He primarily wrote plays, excelling in social drama and comedies with critical content. His most famous work, Pygmalion (1913), inspired the renowned musical adaptation My Fair Lady. He also wrote Saint Joan (1923), Man and Superman (1903), and Widowers' Houses (1892), among many others.

Shaw received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1925 for his contribution to literature, especially for his influence on modern theater. His legacy continues thanks to his ability to combine humor, irony, and social criticism in his writings, establishing himself as one of the most significant figures in English-language theater.
