Dies resultierte in nichts weniger als einer konzeptionellen Neubelebung des Begriffs der Professionalisierung. Ohne den Begriff der Professionalisierung bleibt unverständlich, warum Professionalität nicht einfach mit beruflicher Kompetenz gleichzusetzen ist. Professionalisierung - bei Individuen, Berufsgruppen oder Tätigkeitsfeldern - zielt auf Autonomie in der Berufsausübung. Diese manifestiert sich im Erarbeiten, Gewährleisten und Verteidigen von tätigkeitsspezifischen Leistungsstandards durch eine Profession.
