'Pantheisticon, o formula per a celebrar una fraternitat socratica' (1720), la darrera obra de Toland, es una brillant exposicio de la força i la perennitat de la natura, un exercici d'interpretacio del pensament classic i un ironic pamflet antireligios en forma de liturgia parodica. Escrit i pu- blicat originalment en llati, va tenir una circulacio limitada, no nomes pel seu format inusual, sino tambe per voluntat de l'autor, que en va distribuir personalment uns pocs exemplars entre un cercle redut d'amics. Aquesta obra constitueix un dels primers manifests en favor de la llibertat de pensament, de la recerca de la veritat i de l'amistat entre persones que no tenen por d'imaginar noves realitats.
