Rifujin na Magonote (理不尽な孫の手) is a Japanese writer born on April 3, 1985, in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. He is mainly known for his novel series Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation, a standout work in the isekai genre.
His interest in writing began in elementary school, influenced by the animated film Whisper of the Heart (1995). During high school, he joined the computer club, where he started writing novels using a text editor and creating illustrated stories with PowerPoint. After graduating from university in 2007, he attempted to send manuscripts to publishers without success, which led him to consider giving up writing. However, he later discovered the online novel website Shōsetsuka ni Narō and began publishing his works there.
In November 2012, he started publishing Mushoku Tensei on Shōsetsuka ni Narō. The series quickly gained popularity, reaching the top spot in the site's popularity ranking in less than a year. A year and a half later, Kadokawa acquired the rights to the series and began publishing it as a light novel under its MF Books label, with illustrations by Shirotaka. The first volume was published on January 23, 2014.
In addition to Mushoku Tensei, Rifujin na Magonote has worked on other works, such as Orc Eroica, a light novel series he began publishing in 2019. This series was also acquired by Kadokawa and began publishing in 2020 under the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko label, with illustrations by Asanagi.
Regarding his personal life, Rifujin na Magonote is known for maintaining his privacy. When he appears in public, he often wears a distinctive helmet to cover his face, similar to the one worn by the character Orsted in Mushoku Tensei to protect himself from his curse.
His work Mushoku Tensei has been adapted into manga and anime, and has achieved great popularity, with over 13 million copies sold worldwide as of June 2023.
