En el pueblo de Puerto Edén, aislado en los canales de la Patagonia, el 9 de julio de 1998 murió Julio Tonko, un hombre de la comunidad kawésqar. El azar hizo que Eric Facon pudiera documentar fotográficamente su funeral. Con la partida de Julio Tonko, quedaron solo once de ellos. Todos muy tristes. El esperado encuentro no tuvo lugar realmente debido a las circunstancias. Este evento triste definió todos los viajes posteriores que Eric Facon hizo al sur de Chile entre 1998 y 2007: la vida y la muerte.
