Synopsis "Infierno (in Spanish)"

Infierno es la primera de las tres partes que componen una de las obras cumbre de la literatura universal, la monumental comedia de dante. Redactada aproximadamente entre 1304 y 1321 e impresa por primera vez en 1472, la grandeza épica de esta obra maestra ha inspirado a escritores durante más de quinientos años y ha entrado a formar parte del imaginario colectivo. Guiado por el poeta latino Virgilio, dante recorre en infierno los nueve círculos concéntricos en los que los condenados expían sus culpas. Mientras desciende, el poeta describe las horribles torturas a las que conduce el pecado y presenta un vasto elenco de atormentados personajes, hasta llegar finalmente a lo más profundo del abismo y encontrarse con lucifer. Publicada por primera vez en Seix barral en 1973, la traducción de ángel crespo fue elogiada unánimemente y recibió en 1979 el premio de los lectores y libreros Italianos y en 1980 la medalla de oro della Nascita di dante, que concede la ciudad de Florencia. Su trasvase metrificado y rimado del infierno dantesco depara al lector un verdadero dante castellano, difícil cúspide de la exigencia y de la más sutil maestría expresiva.

Dante is also called the "Father of the Italian language". He actively participated in the political struggles of his time, which led to his exile from his hometown. He was an active defender of Italian unity. He wrote several treatises in Latin on literature, politics, and philosophy.
