Frente a la opacidad de disposiciones que afectan a la ciudadanía en todos los ámbitos de su vida, ha cristalizado un movimiento internacional que, bajo la enseña «lenguaje claro», reivindica un nuevo derecho: el derecho a comprender. La Real Academia Española y las academias de ASALE velan por la corrección y la capacidad expresiva del español. Persiguen una lengua que posibilite el éxito comunicativo en todos los ámbitos: desde la conversación familiar hasta los tratados científicos o humanísticos, desde una solicitud hasta una ley o una sentencia. «Sé coherente», «Sé veraz», «Sé cortés», «Sé claro» son regulaciones del buen uso que actúan como imperativos: del cumplimiento o de la violación de estas máximas deriva el éxito o la ruina de la comunicación. Lenguaje claro y accesibilidad comunicativa mantienen estrechos vínculos. Ambos conceptos coinciden en un mismo objetivo: solucionar problemas en la comprensión de mensajes. Esta Guía persigue transparencia, síntesis, comprensión y facilidad de uso. Explicar el lenguaje claro con lenguaje claro.

The Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), founded in 1713, is the institution responsible for ensuring the unity and proper use of the Spanish language. Throughout its history, it has produced fundamental works for the language, such as the Dictionary of the Spanish Language (first edition in 1780), the Orthography of the Spanish Language (latest edition in 2010), and the New Grammar of the Spanish Language (2009). These publications cover the genres of lexicography, grammar, and orthography, consolidating the RAE as the normative reference for Spanish.

Among its most notable works is the Pan-Hispanic Dictionary of Doubts, published in 2005 and updated in 2025, in collaboration with the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language. Additionally, the RAE has published the Style Book of the Spanish Language (2018) and the Chronicle of the Spanish Language (annual editions since 2021), which analyze the evolution and current use of the language. Although it has not received specific awards, the influence of the RAE on the norms and dissemination of Spanish is widely recognized in the Spanish-speaking world.
