Escalas melografiadas sintetiza ya en su título la ambivalencia sobre la que se estructuran sus relatos: reconocimiento y negación de la materialidad del cuerpo, reconocimiento y negación de la materialidad de la escritura. Como las escalas musicales, posee una gradación de tonos, y como la reproducción melográfica, mecánica, intenta captar, sobre un papel, todos los matices de un instrumento. Cómo expresar las tonalidades, las atmósferas, de una visión internalizada, no necesariamente una experiencia o una vivencia, a través de un conjunto de signos materiales -la lengua- y de una mecánica -la escritura- son los impulsos constructivos de la prosa vallejiana en esto textos.

César Abraham Vallejo Mendoza (Santiago de Chuco, March 16, 1892-Paris, April 15, 1938) was a Peruvian poet and writer. He is considered one of the greatest innovators of universal poetry of the 20th century and the leading figure in Peruvian literature.

He is, in the opinion of critic Thomas Merton, «the greatest Catholic poet since Dante, and by Catholic I mean universal» and, according to Martin Seymour-Smith, «the greatest poet of the 20th century in any language».
