Antonio Damasio (Lisbon, 1944) is a professor of neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy, and heads the Brain and Creativity Institute at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles). Trained as a neurologist and neuroscientist, he has made fundamental contributions to brain processes and their relationship with emotions, feelings, and consciousness, and is considered one of the most eminent psychologists of our time. He holds honorary doctorates from several top-tier universities and is a member of some of the world's most prestigious scientific academies. He has also received numerous awards, including the Prince of Asturias Award for Science and Technology in 2005 and the Award for Most Recognized Researcher from the Institute for Scientific Information.
