In the first book John was being prepped to oversee the cartels operations when the drug czar became to old to himself. The short story at the end (The Spectator) is about a soldier that dies during WWII and spends the rest of the war trying as a ghost to get home to his wife as he feels lonely and believes that it will somehow make him whole again. instead he spends the remainder of the War in Europe viewing many things including death and atrocities. When he finally returns home after the War he waits for many years so he and his wife can journey to heaven together.
