Synopsis "Batman: The man who Laughs"

Even at the very beginning of his crime-fighting career, the Batman has already seen plenty of humanity's dark side — but it's nothing compared to what is about to emerge, giggling, from the shadows: a grinning, chalk-faced figure whose madness threatens to overwhelm everything that stands in its way.
For Gotham City's new defender, this first encounter with the creature called the Joker will be the ultimate trial by fire — a battle that will define his long struggle against the forces of chaos and insanity.
Years later, those same forces will erupt again from a wholly unexpected direction — and ghosts of the past, both good and evil, will have to face the harsh light of inquiry before they can finally rest.
Eisner and Harvey Award-winning writer Ed Brubaker (Gotham Central, Captain America) returns to Gotham's mean streets for two riveting tales of the World's Greatest Detective, accompanied by acclaimed artists Doug Mahnke (JLA, The Mask), Patrick Zircher (Nightwing, Iron Man) and Aaron Sowd (The Batman Chronicles, The Uncanny X-Men).

Ed Brubaker (Bethesda, Maryland, 1966) is an American screenwriter and graphic novelist, known for revitalizing the noir genre comic and for his mature approach to superhero stories. He began his career with the semi-autobiographical series Lowlife and gained notoriety at DC Comics with titles such as Batman, Catwoman, and Gotham Central. At Marvel, his stint on Captain America (2004–2012) is especially famous for introducing the Winter Soldier, redefining the character of Bucky Barnes.

His collaboration with artist Sean Phillips has resulted in notable works such as Criminal (2006–present), Fatale (2012–2014), The Fade Out (2014–2016), and the Reckless series of graphic novels (2020–present). These works, published by Image Comics, have been acclaimed for their intense narrative and noir style. Brubaker has been awarded multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards, including Best Writer and Best New Series for Criminal. Additionally, he has ventured into television as co-writer of the series Too Old to Die Young (2019), directed by Nicolas Winding Refn.
